US nurse arrested in Macedonia awaits trial verdict

An Alabama nurse who was on a humanitarian mission in Macedonia is now awaiting a judge's ruling after she was arrested and tried for allegedly stealing rare coins.

Candi Dunlap, of Meridian, Ala., was arrested on Sept. 28 at Macedonia's airport after the coins were found in her carry-on luggage, the Clarion Ledger reported.?

The judge had been expected to rule Friday but delayed her decision until next Wednesday.

Others on the mission trip with Dunlap insisted she was given the coins as a thank you from a Macedonian and that she had no idea they were not to be taken from the country.

U.S. lawmakers representing Meridian have been hopeful she will be released.

"I am hopeful that there will be a resolution to this soon that will allow Candi to return home,"?Rep. Gregg?Harper said Thursday. "We know that this has been an extreme hardship on Candi and her family."

In Washington, the State Department said U.S. Embassy officials in Macedonia have been visiting with Dunlap regularly to ensure she is well treated.

Dunlap's husband, Marc, is also in Macedonia trying to secure her release. He has been posting updates on a Facebook page dedicated to her freedom.

What earnings reports have revealed about ads

Companies that sell advertising have begun releasing their earnings reports for the latest quarter. Here are highlights of recent quarterly earnings reports from selected Internet and media companies and what they say about the state of spending on advertising.

? Monday: Gannett Co. reports higher net income and revenue, helped by strong gains in political and Olympics-related advertising.

? Tuesday: Advertising and marketing company Omnicom Group Inc. reports nearly flat earnings and revenue compared with a year earlier, as U.S. revenue grew but international revenue declined.

? Wednesday: Television and digital media company Media General Inc. says its third-quarter net loss widened because of higher expenses, but revenue grew sharply thanks to an increase in political advertising and the Olympics.

? Thursday: Google Inc. says ad revenue rose 16 percent from the same time last year, the slowest pace in three years. The company's ad revenue had climbed by at least 21 percent in each of the previous 10 quarters. As has been the case for the past year, the average prices companies pay Google for ads appearing alongside search results also fell. The decelerating growth in ad revenue is likely being driven by the growing use of smartphones and tablet computers to access the Internet. The ads are more difficult to see on smartphones, in particular, so marketers aren't willing to pay as much.

Microsoft Corp. says revenue in its online services division grew 9 percent to $697 million, while operating loss fell 29 percent to $364 million. Online advertising revenue grew 15 percent to $655 million, with growth in search advertising revenue partly offset by lower revenue from display advertising. Microsoft says search revenue grew because of increased revenue per search and increased volumes.

Mandy Moore is still two years away from 30, but a plastic surgeon claims the young star is already getting face-changing surgery that has affected her natural all-American girl looks.

When the 28-year-old stepped out at Rachel Zoe's launch party for Major Must Haves with Jockey on Wednesday, her distorted facial structure made her barely recognizable from the beautiful romantic lead in A Walk To Remember.

"It is very possible that she's had some work done. I suspect she may have undergone Botox injections to her forehead, causing her eyebrows to change shape and flatten," celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn, who has not treated the actress and singer, told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview.

"It also appears she may have undergone a chin implant, making her jaw look more square. Overall, these changes make Mandy look a lot more masculine."

The startling changes in her face aren't the only difference with the 5' 10" Chasing Liberty star, who has lost an awful lot of weight since she was a promoter for healthy curves earlier in her career.

Endemol Games has inked a three-year deal with live dealer specialists Evolution Gaming to bring the Deal Or No Deal brand to the live online market (excluding the UK). Evolution will be tasked with developing new live dealer casino games based on the Deal Or No Deal concept ? basically, asking a player to say ?yes? or ?no? ? that will be distributed across Evolution?s vast network. Evolution creative director Richard Hadida said Deal Or No Deal would offer ?huge potential to attract new players, new demographics and new revenue streams? while CEO Jens von Bahr said there were ?many more brands and multi-channel opportunities? the two companies could explore together. We like to think the lawyers that negotiated the deal did so by concealing their offers in tiny valises, then daring the other to accept or decline, sight unseen, while the anxious CEOs of each company perched on the edge of their boardroom seats, helpless to influence the outcome.

Mahjong Logic has made inroads into the Latin American market via a deal to add its peer-to-peer product to BetMotion?s offering. The Latin debut means the addition of two more language options ? Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese ? to the product?s current list of English, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Korean and Vietnamese. Mahjong Logic CEO Jonas Alm noted the growing ranks of Asian ex-pats in Latin America ? Brazil alone has 1.5m ethnic Japanese ? while BetMotion managing director Martin Benitez says his player base has been clamoring for mahjong and that the partnership would assist ?diversification of our game product.?

William Hill, Ladbrokes and Bet365 will be the new commercial partners of Channel 4?s racing coverage in 2013. Beginning next year, Channel 4 will be the UK?s only terrestrial broadcaster covering racing, with 87 race days on the sked, including Cheltenham, the Grand National, Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood and more. Channel 4 selected its betting partners for 2013 via a blind auction, and while it has so far declined to give public details of the winning bids, MediaWeek quoted C4?s agency principal Chris Braithwaite describing the process as ?transparent and fair and overseen by an independent adjudicator.? There will be another blind auction in April when Bet365?s existing live odds partnership with C4 expires.

Austrian bookmaker Admiral Sportwetten has signed a deal with live racing broadcaster SIS to bring international greyhound racing to the video screens in 12 of the bookie?s 200 Austrian betting caf?s. The SIS greyhound channel, which was launched last summer, features more than 27k dog-eat-dog races per year.

UK- and Hong Kong-based gaming operator Samvo Group has tapped Swedish sports betting market-makers Betting Promotion to provide it with ?a range of markets for a specific sport outside Samvo?s current area of expertise.? Betting Promotion recently claimed to have ridden to the rescue of some former operators left high and dry after International Game Technology announced it was shutting down the Entraction Poker Network.

Resident Evil: Retribution picks up right where Resident Evil: Afterlife leaves off. With Arcadia not the safe haven they once thought it was, the survivors are violently gunned down and Alice is captured. Beneath the snow of an undisclosed location lies Umbrella?s last remaining secret underground facility. In it, you find Alice and a multitude of simulation environments mimicking the outbreak sites from around the world, including Racoon City.

After escaping with the help of a power failure, Alice meets Ada Wong. She tells Alice that Wesker and herself have gone rogue and are now fighting for humanity. Ada also lets Alice know that a team is on the way to the facility to help them escape.

Needing to get to the rendezvous point, Alice and Ada set of across the simulation environments, continually thwarted by the Red Queen?s release of zombies, monsters and more.

Their destination: Topside

Their mission: Get through the simulations alive

Their fate: Haven?t you learned by now that I?m not going to tell you?

Review:

Resident Evil: Retribution is a fantastic film. It picked up right where Resident Evil: Afterlife left off and answered the questions that had been eating away at me since Resident Evil: Extinction. To finally have the franchise come full circle is amazing. Most of the time, you don?t get that with franchises. One plot line can build from the last, but some aspects never get revisited.

The plot was solid and you saw the introduction of new characters, as well as the return of older ones. The mix of characters was brilliant, especially when some of the actors played good and bad ?versions? of themselves. Standout performances are given by Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Kevin Durand, and Aryana Engineer.

If you?re looking for zombie action, you?re not going to be disappointed in the least. With scenes you?re sure to find eerily familiar, Anderson definitely keeps the franchise alive while paying homage to the scenes we found disturbing in other installments. The addition of the Las Plagas zombies was brilliant, but don?t worry ? your other favourites all make appearances from the Lickers to The Executioner.

The ending of Resident Evil: Retribution is certainly not to be missed either. True to form, Anderson leaves himself open for another installment of one of the best franchises in genre history.
